Bricolage

Our word bric-a-brac has the same root. An itinerant general fixer, using what ever’s to hand, in assemblage and repair.

poputchik

Companion means “bread-fellow,” and looking up fellow brought this curious word, the Russian from 1936 for fellow-traveller.

Meatspace

Just suggesting to a friend of a friend who’s been a psychotherapist for many years that she would be able to make a good living as a cyberspace correspendent, posting therapeutic suggestions to people’s questions rather than meeting with them face to face. The rationale for the suggestion is that a good deal of the psychic burden of being a therapist comes from the physical presence of the bodies that a normal consulation requires. One can’t help but absorb some of that energy just though proximity.

However, in cyberspace, as opposed to meatspace, the interaction carries much less psychic weight…if one is good at communicating online, it should be possible to be helpful without getting drained in the way that a physically present therapist would.

Just a notion….
