My friend David shared with us at a dinner at a mutual friend’s the notion of eating food that’s never been in a car. This is such a powerful concept, I’ve not been able to get the thought out of my head since I heard it. All those years at Black Bear where almost every day there was at least a litlle food that we ate that had never been in a car. Grazing on weeds — the volunteers, the plants who want to be here for their own purpose, rather than being cultivars. And eating from the garden, of course.
What David made that night was roasted zucchini, fromn his garden, and walked over with it–he lives close enough that he didn’t have to drive the food to Eva and Daniel’s.
